Disney Dream Jobs

Disney Dream Jobs

Welcome to those of you joining me from Manda’s Disney Blog and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.

I struggled with the topic this month.  When I considered qualifiers for Disney Dream job classifications, things like money, education,  lifestyle, family, and age kept blocking my choices.  What I mean by this is that IF I were trained as a chef, then maybe working as a chef in Victoria & Albert’s would be my Dream job.  (I can't cook)  If I were trained to work with animals, then maybe something in the Animal Kingdom would be ideal.  (I can't deal with hurt animals)  If I didn’t have to be home in the evening with my family, then maybe coordinating the pyrotechnics would be a cool job.  (I need to be home in the evenings)  You see, something always got in the way of my definition of a DREAM job at Disney.  With that being said, I’m throwing all those criteria out the window!

What would be dream job be now?

As silly as it sounds, Jungle Cruise guide is the first thing that popped into my head.  Maybe it’s the cool hat they get to wear or the jokes they tell, but the job looks fun.  How is a job where you get paid to tell silly jokes, not fun?  Yes, I know the hours stink, the pay is low, and being outside all day in the Florida summers is no joy; but remember, I threw reality out of the qualifiers.  I think my choice resonates with me because I was a tour guide in college for an education center/attraction.  Instead of a boat, it was a tram.  Just like they do on the Jungle Cruise, I had to memorize and follow a script for the tour; often providing additional scripting/facts if the tram was caught behind another tour.  What I liked about that job the most was the interaction with the people.  I, also, enjoyed the comradery with the other tour guides and drivers.   Our days were long, and often hot or cold or wet (being outside), but we banded together to enjoy our time as much as we could.  I see that among the Jungle Cruise guides and dock cast members.

While cheesy, the jokes and sight gags never get old to me.  For adults, most of these jokes are met with a “yuck-yuck” or groan, but kids really do believe in the story line.  To be a part of that story telling would be a joy.  In addition, the job is outside and, for me, any dream job would involve being outside.  Sitting in a cubicle, as I do, I crave being outside most of the time.

So what’s your dream Disney job?  I look forward to reading about my fellow Blogorailers choices!
